Old Cairo

Old Cairo also known as Coptic Cairo or Masr al-Qadima in Arabic, is a historic district in the southern
part of Cairo, Egypt. It is home to many ancient churches, monasteries and other religious buildings,
as well as several important Islamic sites.

National Museum

the first of its kind in Egypt and the Arab world. It presents the full range of
the richness and diversity of Egyptian civilization through the ages, from prehistory to the present,
by focusing on its continuity and stability, as evidenced by the tangible and intangible
heritage.

The Great Pyramid of Giza

the largest Egyptian pyramid and served as the tomb of Pharaoh Khufu, who ruled under the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom. Built in the early 26th century BC, over a period of about 27 years, the pyramid is the oldest of the seven wonders of the world and it only miracle that has remained largely intact. It is the most famous monument of the pyramid complex of Giza, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Memphis and its Necropolis”.

It is located atthe northern end of the line of the three pyramids at Giza.

The Valley Temple

was the house of Pharaoh Khafre, built in the mid-26th century BC.

People used it until the 19th century AD, making it the best-preserved structure from the Fourth Dynasty was.

Khafre’s Temple is very original and simpler in design by standards Compared to the later Temples of the Fifth and Sixth Dynasties, which are more richly decorated, it maintains its distinction.

Khan el-Khalili market

Located in the heart of Islamic Cairo, near the medieval walled city of Saladin Citadel,
the Khan el-Khalili market was built on the ancient cemetery of the Fatimid caliphs, who ruled Cairo
founded in the 10th century. The trade in the souk dates back to the 14th century, but the richly carved monumental
gates and lattice-like alleys were built in the 16th century under the last mighty
Mamluk ruler of Egypt.

Tour Plan

Day 1 Flight from Marsa-Alam to Cairo

Depending on the flight to Cairo, you will be picked up from your hotel by a staff member of Egypt4AllReizen.

Upon arrival at Cairo airport, you will be met by a staff member of Egypte4AllReizen.

After arrival we visit the National Museum in Fustat (Old Cairo) and here you can also visit all the royal mummies from the New Kingdom, including Seti I, Ramses II, Amenhotep III and many more.

Then we leave for the mosque and madrasa (Koran school) of Sultan Hassan and the Rifah mosque where the tombs of the last royal family of Egypt are located.

After this visit we drive through Cairo to Giza where we will have lunch and then visit the pyramid of King Cheops and the Valley Temple and causeway with the sphinx of his son King Chephren.

Overnight stay near the pyramids.

Day 2 Sakkara, Khan el Khalili and back to Marsa-Alam

Early in the morning we drive to Sakkara, and you can visit the pyramid of King Djoser from the 3rd dynasty, this pyramid is the oldest stone building in the world. Then we visit the mastaba of Mereruka and Kagemni, both sons-in-law of King Teti from the 6th dynasty, whose pyramid is located next to the mastabas and so we will also visit this pyramid.

After this we drive back to Cairo and visit the Khan el Khalili market. And we will have lunch here too.

After lunch we go for a walk on Muizz Street and see the old mosques and houses from the Ottoman period.

Since this is the last day of your Cairo trip, you will need to take all luggage from your room after breakfast and load it into the car/bus.

Then it is time to go back to the airport for your flight to Marsa-Alam where an employee of egypte4allreizen. is waiting for you to take you back to your hotel.

You will be accompanied by egypte4allreizen employees throughout the day of the excursion. (Dutch, Italian or English speaking guides).
