The two temples, adorned with elaborate carvings and hieroglyphs, honor Ramesses II and his queen, Nefertari.

The Small Temple of Abu Simbel, constructed during the reign of Ramesses II, is dedicated to the goddess Hathor, symbolizing music, dance, and fertility.

Tour Plan

Day 1

At 4 o'clock in the morning an employee of egypte4allreizen will pick you up at the hotel and you will receive a breakfast package from the hotel.

We go to Aswan here we will visit the temple of the goddess Isis on the island of Philea. Isis is the mother of Horus. And Horus is brought into this temple as the young Horus.

To get to this temple we take a boat across the lake. The island is not the real island but the island of Agilika, as the real island of Philea has now completely disappeared under the water, due to the construction of both dams. But Philea was already in serious trouble during the construction of the old dam.

Then we drive to the High dam. The construction of the dam started in 1960 and was completed on July 21, 1970. The reservoir began to fill after the completion of the first phase in 1964. The resulting Lake Nasser was completely filled for the first time in 1976. The reservoir forced thousands of people to move, as well as archaeological sites (such as Abu Simbel) had to be moved. One of them, it Taffeh temple was transferred to the Netherlands and is located in the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden.

Finally, visit the granite quarries of Aswan. Here lies the largest obelisk ever made on behalf of Queen Hatshepsut and it was intended for the Karnak temple. But unfortunately this obelisk was torn at the last minute and could therefore not be removed from the quarry.

Day 2 Abu-Simbel and back to Marsa-Alam

This morning we get up very early, at 3 o'clock in the morning. We leave the checkpoint at 4am. We then drive in convoy to Abu Simbel which is approximately 285 km south of Aswan. Here are the great sun temples of Ramesses II and his beloved wife Nefertari. These temples were moved in the years 1964-1966 to protect them from the rising waters of Lake Nasser. They have been rebuilt 80 meters higher and 150 meters inland.

After visiting the temples we return to Aswan. We will have a delicious lunch and then go to the hotel for a quick nap in the afternoon. And then we go with the felukka to the Botanical garden or Kitchener Island. We then go by motor boat to the Nubian village where the brave among us can pet the crocodiles.

If you have survived this adventure and have not been eaten, we will go back to the hotel.

Day 3

After breakfast the suitcases are loaded onto the bus because this is the last day. But first we go to the temple of Kalabsha and the temple of Ramses II, Beit el Wali and the kiosk of Kertassi, which is dedicated to the goddess Hathor, which once stood in front of a large temple at the entrance to a mine. But all these monuments have been moved and are now here on the island of Kalabsha together as an open-air museum.

After the visit we will have lunch and then back to Marsa-Alam and take you back to the hotel.

The entire excursion day will be accompanied by employees of Egypt4allreizen (Dutch, Italian, or English-speaking guides).
